You're moving through a frightening dreamscape and something jumps out at you. Your pulse quickens. Suddenly, the dreamscape becomes unfocused and louder. No, you aren't asleep - you are playing Nevemind. The brainchild of Erin Reynolds, Nevermind is a survival/horror game that uses biofeedback to effect the world within the game. Nevermind was featured at IndieCade 2012, and Jeremy took some time to talk to Erin about the game, where it came from and where it's going from here.
Jeremy takes some time to discuss the analog side of gaming and how game companies can effectively use Kickstarter with Christopher Badell from Greater Than Games, makers of the popular card game Sentinels of the Multiverse. The "Shattered Timelines" expansion for the game just closed a Kickstarter campaign almost 1000% funded!
The future of GAME.minder began today, but as with any large changeover of this nature, there are problems that slip through the cracks. Overall, the upgrade has gone swimmingly, but you should be on the lookout for the following items just in case:
The Hardy Boys and the Case of the Missing Minder
Provided you had an active GAME.minder account yesterday, all of your RE.minders are safe on our server. We only mention it because one bug we’ve seen related to logging in can make it appear that your RE.minder list is empty. DON’T PANIC. Try the following steps to resolve the issue. If you still have trouble, just let us know.
- Go to the Info tab and Logout.
- Press the home button on your device, then delete GAME.minder by pressing and holding on it, then touching the X.
- Download GAME.minder again from the App Store.
- Run GAME.minder and log in and your RE.minders should appear. If they do not, please let us know and we can try further steps.
Part of this move entailed moving to a completely new architecture, both on the hardware side as well as the software side. This means we are now operating at scale on a system that we haven’t used in this way before. What this means for you gamers is that GAME.minder is a bit slow right now. The good news is that since our new architecture is so new, we have several ways to combat this. Expect the speeds of everything to pick up as we work out the best ways to handle the load on the new server.
Another consequence of moving to a new home is that we needed to update our SSL certificates (that fun encryption that keeps your info safe). In the short term, we’re seeing some issues when you log into gameminder.com vs www.gameminder.com. Rest assured, your personal info is still safe. If you want to avoid getting SSL errors, you should sign into www.gameminder.com, not gameminder.com.
Push it Real Good
We’ll be ramping the notification systems back up over the next several days. Expect to see push notifications resume on Thursday the 6th and emails within about a week.
The current version of the iOS app is 2.6 and it was released today. Older versions of the iOS app will no longer work.
We have one known bug on the iOS app that will cause a crash. When you launch the app, and attempt to search for a game before the app has had a chance to load any data from the server, the app will crash. The simple fix until we can push out an updated app is to just wait to begin typing in the search box until you see the games list load.
You may also see empty RE.minder lists in the iOS app. See “The Hardy Boys and the Case of the Missing Minder” above for the fix.
The current version of the Android App is 1.1.42 and it was released today.
If you got GAME.minder from Google Play, you should have no problems. Kick back and relax, content in the knowledge that you are way better than those iOS dupes.
If you got GAME.minder from Amazon, the update is still awaiting review. The previous version of the Android app should still function without a hitch, you just won’t get to see the fancy new icon (the rest of the changes are under the hood). If you are seeing SSL alerts, see “Security” above.
And that should just about do it. As always if you see any other problems, let us know. We’re very proud of where we’re taking GAME.minder starting today and we’re so excited for you to finally get to play with it! Enjoy, and as always -

(See the updates at the bottom of this post for live updates)
My fellow gamers, the day has finally arrived! At around 11:59pm, December 4th 2012, GAME.minder as you know it will go offline. At this point, we will begin the process of bringing the new system online. Assuming it doesn't become self-aware and nuke us all into oblivion, the new system should become available during the day on December 5th. Depending on where you live, it may take some time for GAMEminder.com to point to the new system.
Once we're online (we'll announce it here) there will be a number of new things in place:
- Web Gamers:
- GAMEminder.com will work without a hitch.
- Android Gamers:
- Check your store for an update.
- Your current client should still work but we've made some changes in the new client that will make logins smoother and moved to Google's new push notification system.
- iOS Gamers:
- Get the 2.6 update from the App Store.
- Versions 2.5.1 and earlier will no longer work after midnight.
One last reminder
You MUST have an active GAME.minder account before the old system goes offline or you will lose your RE.minders.
We know that some of you are bummed about this but we promise, the new GAME.minder is gonna be pretty great, we'd love for you to join us!
We will be updating this post, as well as Facebook and Twitter, throughout the changeover so just check back to see when the all new GAME.minder is ready to go and as always-
DON'T FORGET TO PLAY®
GAME.minder is officailly down. The server migration will be running for several hours at this point. Check back in the morning for more status updates.
The data migration is over and it looks like just about everything is in place. We're currently sifting through the data to make sure everything worked. Next step is to get the new gameminder.com up and running. Stay tuned!
It won't be long now. We expect to begin flipping the final switch (to begin the new DNS propogation) within the next 20-30 minutes.
It is 2:19 PM, Wednesday December 5th and the all- new GAME.minder is coming at you, live and direct - 20 minutes into the future!
Patience is a virtue as it may take some time for the new site to show up for you but head to site, or your preffered App Store to get the new apps.
Welcome to the future and as always-
