The future of GAME.minder began today, but as with any large changeover of this nature, there are problems that slip through the cracks. Overall, the upgrade has gone swimmingly, but you should be on the lookout for the following items just in case:
In general
The Hardy Boys and the Case of the Missing Minder
Provided you had an active GAME.minder account yesterday, all of your RE.minders are safe on our server. We only mention it because one bug we’ve seen related to logging in can make it appear that your RE.minder list is empty. DON’T PANIC. Try the following steps to resolve the issue. If you still have trouble, just let us know.
- Go to the Info tab and Logout.
- Press the home button on your device, then delete GAME.minder by pressing and holding on it, then touching the X.
- Download GAME.minder again from the App Store.
- Run GAME.minder and log in and your RE.minders should appear. If they do not, please let us know and we can try further steps.
Slowness:
Part of this move entailed moving to a completely new architecture, both on the hardware side as well as the software side. This means we are now operating at scale on a system that we haven’t used in this way before. What this means for you gamers is that GAME.minder is a bit slow right now. The good news is that since our new architecture is so new, we have several ways to combat this. Expect the speeds of everything to pick up as we work out the best ways to handle the load on the new server.
Security:
Another consequence of moving to a new home is that we needed to update our SSL certificates (that fun encryption that keeps your info safe). In the short term, we’re seeing some issues when you log into gameminder.com vs www.gameminder.com. Rest assured, your personal info is still safe. If you want to avoid getting SSL errors, you should sign into www.gameminder.com, not gameminder.com.
Push it Real Good
We’ll be ramping the notification systems back up over the next several days. Expect to see push notifications resume on Thursday the 6th and emails within about a week.
iOS App
The current version of the iOS app is 2.6 and it was released today. Older versions of the iOS app will no longer work.
We have one known bug on the iOS app that will cause a crash. When you launch the app, and attempt to search for a game before the app has had a chance to load any data from the server, the app will crash. The simple fix until we can push out an updated app is to just wait to begin typing in the search box until you see the games list load.
You may also see empty RE.minder lists in the iOS app. See “The Hardy Boys and the Case of the Missing Minder” above for the fix.
Android App
The current version of the Android App is 1.1.42 and it was released today.
If you got GAME.minder from Google Play, you should have no problems. Kick back and relax, content in the knowledge that you are way better than those iOS dupes.
If you got GAME.minder from Amazon, the update is still awaiting review. The previous version of the Android app should still function without a hitch, you just won’t get to see the fancy new icon (the rest of the changes are under the hood). If you are seeing SSL alerts, see “Security” above.
Thank You!
And that should just about do it. As always if you see any other problems, let us know. We’re very proud of where we’re taking GAME.minder starting today and we’re so excited for you to finally get to play with it! Enjoy, and as always -
Don’t forget to play
